For experienced off road bikers who love to ride dunes, dunes, and again dunes we have composed a tour that connects both Erg Chegaga and Erg Chebby. With a total of nearly 1000km in 9 days, from which 7 days biking, plus days of arrival and departure this is our second longest tour. (Want more? see our Chris Scott tour)
The itinerary was originally meant for 4x4 tours but it has also proved to be perfect for our motorbike tours. After all, our 4x4 pick-up truck follows the same track for quick assistance when needed. On board the service vehicle we carry fuel, supplies, air-compressor, Engel fridge, spares, tubes, tools, first-aid-kit and your personal luggage. 95% goes off-road and we do an average around 170kms per day. Guiding is done by GPS on the handle bar of the KTM 450 EXC. A detailed track on the screen shows you exactly where to go. To maximize your enjoyment you must have good experience in handling an off road bike.Peter’s 30 years Morocco experience brings you to the best places the desert has to offer!
Tour description:
Right after leaving the hotel in Ouarzazate we’re on the track. It leads us south, crossing the 1500m high Jebel Bani mountain range. In Foum-zguid we spend the night at the only hotel in the village. It’s a clean cosy place run by a friendly family which we know for many years. The next morning, after breakfast and filling up fuel we head-out into the desert. The first part of the track is a little stony. Then we go straight over the bottom of the dry Iriki Lake in order to reach the largest dune area of Morocco; Erg Chegaga. Here we all find our way up to the highest dune top; Sand as far as the eye can see.
Further on we cross the Erg Lehoudi, just north of Mhamid. We continue north east passing through the dunes near Rhemlia. Our next goal will be the beautiful red coloured sand dunes at Erg Chebby. Here we will stay 2 nights at our ***star hotel at the foot of the dunes. It will be a challenge for all to reach the five highest dune tops here. They raise over 150m high above the flat lands below. Believe me; it’s awesome to be on the top! After hard days work we return to the hotel where we take time to relax beside the pool with a cool drink. We are on holiday…Next day trail goes partially via the 2007 Dakar route. Halfway we have a photo-stop with breathtaking views over a moon-like landscape. Lunch is in an ancient Kasbah surrounded by thousands of palm trees. The last riding day will not be all off-road; a 60km winding mountain-road section brings us back to Ouarzazate.
Dinner and night will be in the same hotel as where we started.
Tour price is including : motorbike rent, riding-gear, fuel, 4x4 assistance, all nights hotel, all meals, mineral water during the day and local airport transfers.
For those who prefer a less hardcore type of journey we offer the possibility to do any of our tours on a Yamaha TTR250. The Yamaha is not as powerful as the KTM 450 and therefore ideal for those who discover off-road desert biking for the first time.
Peter will personally guide you through the desert on his KTM 950 Superenduro. A second driver will follow in the 4x4 assistance vehicle.
Extra costs per group: € 220,- per day.
Group size on all tours: Minimum 4p, maximum 8p
Tour dates: We are permanently based in Ouarzazate; so you’re free to choose the dates.
